It's a great movie

I've watched the movie Her several times. Mainly for the story, aesthetics, tech, and inspiration when I'm looking to work on new projects. One of the main things I like about the movie is how the technology is so advanced but doesn't conform to the usual overly futuristic approach. The dystopian type of look and feel or metal sharp objects with random holograms. The technology in Her is seamless and looks so simple with the environments that they're in.

There's a scene where the main character is playing a game and he is using his hands as the controller and there's no screen or fancy device but instead a project that's projecting the game into the space of the living room. It looks so simple yet incredible. He then interacts with the character in the game through talking and gestures while his personal AI assists him with the quest. The whole space is transformed and he's immersed in the game. The clip below explains it much better.

Let's make something like it

I really want that setup, it looks incredible and I can only imagine the type of games that could come from a setup like that. So, being the developer that I am. I got to thinking, how can I recreate this?

ThreeJS has a great showcase of examples and there are a few figures in there with controls that allow the user to make them walk, run, dance, etc. Starting with this, I plan on adding voice commands to trigger the functions and then use a peppers ghost type of approach to building something that can house the screen that has the figure inside. It would be basically building a low-budget version of Looking Glass. https://lookingglassfactory.com/

Whenever I watch a movie like Her, I’m always so jealous about the technology in these futuristic movies and how natural and fluid they seem/integrate with the surrounding environments.

I Need An Account-a-bill-ity

I can be terrible at holding myself accountable when it comes to getting things done. Like, I’ll write down so many things I have to get done but they seem to not get done unless I put myself at some risk or there is a reward involved ($$$). I know, shameless. So I thought to myself . . .
